It gives me immense pleasure to give brief outline of the college. Sou Mangaltai Ramchandra Jagtap Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Umbraj was established by Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara in 1989. Previously it was known as Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Umbraj. From 2010, it was renamed as Sou. Mangaltai Ramchandra Jagtap. They donated Rs.20 lakh for the development of the college. Our college is women's college specially established to provide higher education opportunity to the girl students from the hilly and rural area in the vicinity of Umbraj. Presently, the college offers UG course in Arts having departments of 5 special subjects (Marathi, Hindi, English, History, and Sociology). Along with this formal course, we also run career oriented and skill based short term courses. In order to increase employability of the students and develop various skills, the college runs self-financed short term courses like- beauty parlour, cookery, Tally, Office Automation, Spoken English Course, Balwadi Teacher's Training course. From this year we have started COC sanctioned by UGC –Fashion Designing Course. These courses are particularly offered taking into consideration girl students 'needs. The course Karate is being run to equip the girls with self-defence mechanism.
The college received 2F 12 B status of UGC in the year 2006.We could develop various infrastructure facilities with the assistance of various UGC grants. The building of ladies hostel having accommodation capacity of 60 students has been completed with the financial assistance of UGC. The college was reaccredited by NAAC in Sept 2011 with B grade (CGPA-2.27)
The faculty members of our college are well qualified and engaged in research activity. Out of 15 faculty members 5 are Ph.D., 3 have M. Phil, 3 are SET/NET qualified, and 2 have registered for Ph. D. Three faculty members have completed UGC minor research projects. The college encourages the faculty to participate and present research papers in national, international level conferences. They have published research articles in peer-reviewed journals.
Various co-curricular activities are arranged for the all-round development of the students . Various competitions- elocution, poetry recitation, essay writing, poster, mehandi. Singing, rangoli etc. are organized in the week of Karmveer Birth Anniversary. The students are motivated to participate in cultural programmes. We have NSS unit of 100 students. They participate in social activities like-tree plantation, village cleaning, rally, 7 days residential camp, survey, health check-up camp. The students also express their creativity through our annual college magazine TRIVENI. The college provides various schalarships to the students- state government scholarship for reservation candidates, Central government's merit scholarship University merit scholarship and EBC for economically backward students. A study tour is arranged every year. A career guidance and counselling cell is working to guide students for M.P.S.C and other competitive exams. A special library is made available for it. Our teachers guide the students and also the expert guest lectures are also organized for MPSC guidance. We are striving to prosper the college under the guidance and inspiration of our management Rayat Shikshan Sanstha.
